Why Tinubu Moved During Buhari’s Government – Oshiomhole
According to Ireporter Online, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North in the National Assembly, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu temporarily relocated from Nigeria during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari in order to avoid what he described as political humiliation linked to certain government policies and decisions at the time.
Oshiomhole made the disclosure during an appearance on ‘The Mic On Podcast’ on Sunday, where he also noted that despite the strained political environment, Tinubu—then the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC)—continued to support Buhari’s administration.
He explained that Tinubu was reportedly uncomfortable with some of the policy directions and political appointments made under Buhari’s government, adding that the situation influenced his decision to stay away from the country for a period. Oshiomhole referenced Buhari’s early declaration that he belonged to everyone and to no one, suggesting that subsequent actions in government did not always reflect that principle.
In a related remark, Oshiomhole also commented on the internal dynamics of the 10th National Assembly, alleging that many senators are dissatisfied with the leadership style of Senate President Godswill Akpabio. He suggested that Akpabio is overly suspicious of colleagues and would have taken stricter actions against critics if possible, while insisting that the concerns within the chamber go beyond his personal experience.
He further warned that the current political atmosphere in the Senate could change significantly after the 2027 elections, when the 11th National Assembly is expected to be inaugurated.
