Police Speaks On Suspected Arson At Lagos Spare Parts Market

The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into suspected arson at the Akere Motor Spare Parts Market in the state’s Apapa area.

According to a statement issued by the state’s police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, despite the fact that the fire was extinguished around 3 a.m., a 65-year-old security guard was killed in the incident.

Meanwhile, market traders have lamented the loss of millions of naira. According to reports, a group of gunmen arrived around 2:30 a.m. and set fire to the market, killing a man identified as the security guard.

Similarly, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said earlier on Wednesday that the deceased male adult had “gunshot injury,” raising the possibility that the fire was a deliberate attack on the market.

However, Hundeyin stated that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, has urged Lagosians to remain calm as the State Criminal Investigation Department has been directed to take over the investigation into the true circumstances surrounding the attack.

He also urged restraint in adding any extraneous color to the incident, while assuring that the findings of the investigation would be made public.
