Shaibu Opens Up On Feud With Obaseki

According to Shaibu, Obaseki accused him during a meeting of associating with his enemies.

The Deputy Governor shared that Obaseki insisted that their relationship could only be restored if Shaibu publicly renounced his interest in the governorship. Despite the intervention of influential figures in the state, including the Oba of Benin, the animosity between them persisted.

Shaibu filed a court case seeking protection against an alleged plan to remove him from office. He detailed several instances where Obaseki hindered his official duties, including threats to withdraw his security details and exclusion from meetings with the governor and the state executive council.

He also mentioned that responsibilities that were previously under his office’s purview were taken away by the Governor.

In the supporting affidavit for the court summons filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, Shaibu accused Obaseki of instigating the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the State Security Service (SSS) to harass and intimidate him to prevent him from carrying out his duties as Deputy Governor. He argued that this action was unconstitutional.

Shaibu sought various declarations and injunctions from the court to protect him from further harassment and to ensure that he could fulfill his responsibilities as Deputy Governor of Edo State without interference. He also called for an order to involve him in state executive council meetings and to be given notices of such meetings in accordance with constitutional provisions.
