What Navy Did To Five Suspected Oil Thieves
The Nigerian Navy has handed over five individuals suspected of being involved in oil theft and boat theft to the Lagos State Police Command. The suspects, identified as Owoyele Joseph Omotuyi, Obajimi Oluwaseyifunmi, Balogun Oluwadaisi, Asonja Godday, and Awolowo Aribo, were apprehended on August 29, 2023.
Items recovered from the suspects included a 300-horsepower boat engine and eleven 1000-liter tanks containing petroleum products suspected to be stolen crude oil. The suspects claimed to be members of Tantita Security Service.

According to Commodore Kolawole Oguntuga, Commander of the Nigeria Navy Ship BEECROFT, the arrests were made in Tolu Community, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, following a distress call reporting sporadic gunshots. The suspects were attempting to forcibly take a boat engine from a local resident when they were apprehended.
The handover of the suspects and seized items to the Nigeria Police aims to investigate the circumstances and locate other individuals who may have escaped. It also underscores the collaboration between security agencies to combat illegal activities in Lagos State.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, emphasized the importance of synergy among security agencies and the community to maintain a secure environment for legitimate business activities.
