Edo Communities Breath A Sigh Of Relief: Troops Apprehend Criminal Gangs, Seize Vehicle Laden With Illicit Drugs

The operation, conducted in the early hours of Thursday, February 22, 2024, yielded the arrest of members of notorious criminal gangs and the recovery of a vehicle loaded with illicit drugs.

According to a statement released by the Nigerian Army on Thursday night, the operation targeted hideouts of suspected criminal elements in Gbelebu village, situated within the depths of Okomu forest. Notably, one of the prime targets, Joshua Ewaiken, also known as “General,” managed to evade capture, although efforts to apprehend him are ongoing.

Among those apprehended were Shell Joshua and Godspower Joshua, siblings of the fugitive suspect, along with Obuh Ayawe and Japhet Uyaboerizha. These individuals, associated with Joshua Ewaiken’s gang, have been linked to a myriad of criminal activities ranging from kidnapping and robbery to extortion, rape, and unlawful possession of firearms. Their reign of terror has inflicted untold suffering upon villagers and neighboring communities.

The seizure of a Toyota Highlander vehicle, assorted illicit drugs, and a mobile phone underscores the gravity of their nefarious activities. With the suspects now in custody, further investigations are underway to dismantle the criminal network and bring all perpetrators to justice.

Brigadier General Ebenezer Oduyebo, Commander of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, commended the troops for their unwavering commitment and dedication in curtailing the activities of criminal elements. The operation marks a significant victory in the ongoing efforts to safeguard the security and well-being of citizens within the Brigade Area of Operations, instilling hope and confidence in the hearts of Edo residents.
