Insecurity: Oba Of Benin Summons Native Doctors, Traditional Priests For Emergency Meeting
According to Ireporter Online, the Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has convened an urgent meeting with native doctors, traditional priests, and priestesses in response to the escalating insecurity in Edo State and other parts of Nigeria.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Friday and signed by Chief Victor Nosakhare on behalf of the Secretary of the Benin Traditional Council, Frank Irabor.
The statement disclosed that the emergency meeting is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at the Oba’s Palace in Benin City. It added that the gathering is aimed at exploring traditional strategies that could complement government efforts toward restoring peace and security across affected communities.
It further emphasized that the summons was issued directly by Oba Ewuare II and should be treated with utmost urgency given the prevailing security challenges in the state and the country at large.
The statement read in part that His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, had considered it necessary to engage all available traditional and strategic means to support ongoing initiatives by the government in tackling insecurity and restoring order within the kingdom.
It also directed all Igiohen N’ Ikpia and Igiohen N’ Ikhuo, as well as traditional doctors within the Benin Kingdom, to attend the emergency meeting as mandated by the Benin Traditional Council under the Oba’s authority.
