Recently, the federal lawmaker submitted, under oath in court, certified copies of INEC reports validating his win in the February 17th primary elections. The documents also shed light on the change of venue to Protea Hotel, attributed to security concerns by the primary elections committee.

The legal implications of this development suggest a potentially protracted court case, diverting attention from the gubernatorial candidate and the party, possibly leading to a situation where the APC has no candidate for the general elections.

Dennis Idahosa’s proactive measures go beyond legal submissions; he penned a letter to INEC requesting that only his name be considered as the Edo APC candidate, emphasizing his victory in the contested primary election.

In the letter dated March 4th, 2024, and drafted by Wole Olanipekun (SAN), marked WOC/ABJ/VOL.01/074/2024, addressed to INEC Chairman Professor Mahmud Yakubu, Idahosa highlighted the filed lawsuit (Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/274/2024) against Sen. Monday Okpebholo, the APC, and INEC. He urged INEC to recognize the legal action and consider him as the legitimate party candidate.

Within the lawsuit, Idahosa asserted his triumph in the election conducted by INEC on February 17, 2024, and the subsequent official declaration as the winner. He contested the justification for the supplementary election mandated by the party leadership, citing a lack of explanation for their directive.

He further argued that the election held on February 20th was not a separate event but rather an extension of the February 17th, raising pertinent issues that may shape the ongoing legal battle.
