Speaking exclusively to SaharaReporters, some cadets expressed frustration with the current feeding arrangement, attributing the challenges to the actions of a new caterer, CSP Funke, reportedly hired by the academy’s commandant, AIG Abubakar Sadik.

According to the cadets, CSP Funke has allegedly been cutting food portions and neglecting to provide adequate meals, leaving many students struggling to find enough to eat, especially during breakfast.

Describing the situation, one cadet disclosed that the new caterer had significantly reduced the quantity of food served to cadets, making life difficult for them. Despite complaints, the cadets claimed that CSP Funke acted with impunity, dismissing any concerns raised against her.

Furthermore, the cadets accused the academy’s management of sidelining lower-ranking policemen and academic wing members from the kitchen committee, giving the caterer free rein to operate as she pleases.

Amidst the crisis, the cadets lamented instances where only a fraction of the students were provided with meals, leaving many hungry and resorting to alternative options like garri for sustenance.

In a plea for intervention, the cadets urged President Bola Tinubu, the Minister of Police Affairs, the Inspector General of Police, and other relevant authorities to investigate the matter and address their plight.

Efforts to obtain a response from the police academy regarding the allegations made by the cadets were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

The plight of the cadets underscores the need for urgent action to address the hunger crisis and ensure the welfare of students at the Nigerian Police Academy.
