The FCT Administration announced that those detained would either be placed in rehabilitation centers for vocational training or sent back to their home states if unwilling to participate in skill acquisition programs.
The operation included personnel from the Police, Military, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other paramilitary forces. Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu described the initiative as a “national assignment” and urged officers to uphold professionalism while enforcing the ministerial directive.
“This operation will continue for the first two weeks,” Disu stated, “after which we’ll review our progress and decide if further actions are necessary.”
FCT Administration’s Director of Security, Adamu Gwary, emphasized that the operation would be conducted around the clock. Represented by Dr. Peter Olumuji, he explained that the team divided into four groups to cover metro areas and key roads, including Kubwa, Gwarinpa, Asokoro, and other major routes. Although no beggars were found in the city center, 15 beggars and 19 scavengers were detained in other areas.
