In an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, she emphasized the importance of international cooperation between countries.

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala addressed concerns regarding President Trump’s proposed tariffs, acknowledging the rise of protectionism among WTO member nations but also highlighting that global trade has surpassed pre-pandemic levels.

“What I would like to emphasize is that over the past five years, particularly since I became Director-General, trade has faced significant challenges, including rising protectionism—not just from the U.S. but from multiple nations. Nonetheless, trade has shown remarkable resilience, reaching a total of $30.4 trillion, which exceeds pre-pandemic peaks
