Public Outcry as Tragic Death OF Girl Coincides With First Lady’s Engagement

In a statement released on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, Olusola Ayanlade, the police confirmed that all available evidence and eyewitness testimonies absolve the First Lady’s convoy of any connection to the incident. The First Lady was in Akure on a scheduled visit to distribute empowerment items, but online reports had wrongly alleged that her convoy was involved in the fatal crash.

The police clarified that a preliminary investigation, along with multiple eyewitness accounts—including those of the girl’s parents—indicated that the tragedy was caused by a hit-and-run driver operating an unregistered white Lexus SUV.

One eyewitness reportedly chased the fleeing driver on a motorcycle after the incident occurred in the Oba Ile area of Akure. The accounts were further corroborated by other individuals at the scene.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State personally visited the bereaved family to express condolences and assure them of a transparent investigation. The police emphasized that the First Lady’s convoy had no link to the incident.

The statement further appealed to the public for cooperation in tracking down the hit-and-run driver and urged anyone with helpful information to contact the nearest police station.

“The Command extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and is committed to ensuring the culprit is brought to justice,” the statement concluded.
