Edo Security Squad Issues Stern Warning Ahead of By-Elections

The Edo State Special Security Squad has issued a strong warning to criminal elements planning to disrupt the August 16 senatorial and House of Representatives by-elections. Squad Coordinator Ameloemen Noah made this declaration on Friday during security operations across Edo Central and Edo North districts.

Security forces conducted targeted operations in key locations including Uromi’s Ojuromi Modern Market, Ekpoma, Irrua, and surrounding communities in Edo Central, while focusing on Warake, Iyeki Road, Angle 90, and Auchi Polytechnic campus in Edo North. Noah emphasized that law enforcement agencies are fully mobilized to prevent any security breaches during the electoral process.

“We possess credible intelligence about cultists mobilizing to cause chaos during the elections,” Noah stated. “Let me be clear – we will respond decisively. This isn’t about politics but protecting Edo citizens. Parents must warn their wards against being used by criminals as offenders will face the full wrath of the law.”

The security chief also addressed viral rumors of gunfire at Auchi Polytechnic, confirming after investigation that no such incident occurred. “Our visit to the institution revealed a peaceful campus environment. We’re following up on earlier police arrests of cultists attempting to disrupt graduation celebrations,” Noah clarified.

Auchi Polytechnic’s Director of Public Relations, Dr. Angela Egele, corroborated the security findings, denying any shooting incident on August 6. “Our graduation proceeded peacefully without any cult-related disturbances. The circulating videos are fabricated,” Egele asserted, reaffirming the institution’s zero-tolerance policy towards cultism.

The security operations and subsequent statements underscore the state government’s commitment to ensuring violence-free by-elections and maintaining general security across Edo State.
