Breaking Tragedy: BBNaija Star Phyna Mourns As Sister Ruth Otabor Dies In Dangote Truck Accident

A graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, Ruth Otabor, sister to reality TV star Ijeoma Josephine Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has passed away.

Phyna confirmed the heartbreaking news on Sunday through a statement shared via her Instagram page. The family has asked the public to respect their privacy as they grieve.

The official statement reads:

“We remain solicitors to Ruth Otabor, Ijeoma Josephine Otabor (Phyna), and the Otabor Family, and on their instruction, wish to inform the public as follows:

With deep sorrow, the family announces the passing to glory of their beloved daughter, sister, and mother on the 31st day of August 2025 at about 6:30am.

The family is presently in mourning and kindly requests privacy during this difficult time. Funeral arrangements will be communicated to the public in due course.”

It will be recalled that Ruth was involved in a tragic accident on August 13, 2025, near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, after being hit by a Dangote truck reportedly driven by an underage and unlicensed driver.

The accident led to the amputation of her leg, and Phyna had since been pushing for justice and accountability from the Dangote Group. Although the company initially promised full support for Ruth’s medical treatment, including flying her abroad for advanced care, Phyna alleged that the firm later failed to fulfill its commitment.
