A Nation Mourns as the Final Story Ends: Dr. Leon Usigbe Laid to Rest in Abuja(Video)

Karshi, Abuja — In a moment steeped in reverence and reflection, Nigeria bid farewell to one of its most respected journalistic voices, Dr. Leon Akhabue Usigbe, who was laid to rest at his residence in Karshi following a solemn funeral mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Dr. Usigbe, the Abuja Bureau Chief of the Nigerian Tribune, passed away on July 25, 2025, after a brief illness. His funeral drew an outpouring of grief and admiration from colleagues, government officials, and loved ones. The mass, officiated by Rev. Fr. David Osagie Akahomhen, painted a portrait of a man whose life was defined by courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment to truth.

Among those present were members of the State House Press Corps, senior editors, and representatives from the Presidency, including Stanley Nkwocha, who spoke on behalf of Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, describing Usigbe as “a journalist of high standards whose passing left grappling emotions”.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also paid tribute, calling Dr. Usigbe “a veteran correspondent whose dedication to ethical journalism helped strengthen democratic governance”.

The video captures the emotional moments from the funeral mass, where media aides and colleagues gathered to honor his memory. It’s a powerful visual testament to the impact Dr. Usigbe had on Nigeria’s political and media landscape.

As the final rites were performed and the earth embraced one of its finest sons, the silence spoke volumes. Dr. Leon Usigbe may be gone, but his voice echoes still—in the stories he told, the lives he touched, and the truth he stood for.
