NSIA Teams Up With UK Firm In $496M Dairy Farming Deal
According to Ireporter Online, the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) has joined forces with UK-based Asset Green Ltd to launch a $496 million integrated dairy production and processing platform. The initiative is set to modernise Nigeria’s dairy sector, enhance food security, and significantly expand the nation’s domestic dairy production.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed in London, outlines plans for one of the most ambitious private-sector-led agricultural investments in Nigeria’s history. The project is expected to generate around $620 million in annual revenue and create approximately 2,500 direct jobs and 5,000 indirect roles nationwide.
The development will span 20,000 hectares of climate-smart, regenerative crop and forage cultivation to support a 10,000-cow modern dairy farm. Central to the initiative is a high-tech processing plant capable of producing fresh milk, butter, cream, milk powders, and an estimated 15,000 metric tonnes of infant formula annually.
In addition to industrial production, the project aims to integrate 10,000 rural households into the national supply chain through inclusive out-grower schemes, modernising local farming practices and improving nutrition in participating communities.
British Deputy High Commissioner Jonny Baxter emphasised that the partnership reflects the longstanding economic cooperation between the UK and Nigeria, highlighting the transformative impact of earlier UK support in establishing NSIA. NSIA CEO Aminu Umar-Sadiq described the project as a generational shift for Nigeria’s food systems, noting that it creates a foundation for a modern, competitive dairy sector that reduces import dependence.
Rod Bassett, Director of Asset Green Ltd and CEO of Agrium Capital Ltd, added that the investment will develop advanced infrastructure across the production and supply chain, delivering environmental benefits and enhancing national food sovereignty while reducing Nigeria’s reliance on imported dairy products.
