Sh*ck Move: Binani Quits ADC For NDC Ahead Of 2027

According to Ireporter Online, former Adamawa State governorship candidate, Senator Aishatu Binani, has officially joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), in what marks a significant political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Binani was formally presented with her NDC membership card on Friday, about nine months after she left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signalling another swift shift in her political journey.

Explaining her decision, the former senator said her move was influenced by the internal structure of the NDC, its emphasis on policy-driven governance, and consultations with her political supporters in Adamawa State. She acknowledged that her frequent party changes may raise concerns among Nigerians but maintained that political decisions are often shaped by evolving realities on the ground.

Binani noted that she would not discredit her previous political platforms, stressing that politics remains dynamic and largely driven by local considerations and the interests of supporters.

She stated that her supporters played a central role in the latest decision, revealing that they had already begun strengthening the party structure in Adamawa before her formal entry. According to her, the political base she leads remains the foundation of her public service journey.

She further disclosed that Adamawa State now records one of the highest numbers of registered members of the NDC, attributing the growth to the mobilisation efforts of her supporters.

Binani expressed gratitude to the National Working Committee of the NDC for welcoming her and her political bloc, while calling for fairness, equity, justice, transparency, and stronger internal democracy within the party.

Also speaking at the reception, the National Leader of the NDC and former Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Seriake Dickson, described the party as an open and inclusive platform willing to accommodate new entrants and strengthen its national presence.

Dickson encouraged politicians across the country who may feel dissatisfied with their current parties to consider the NDC as an alternative, stressing that Nigerian law guarantees freedom of association and movement between political parties.

He maintained that no politician should feel trapped in a political platform, adding that individuals are free to leave any party that no longer aligns with their aspirations. According to him, the NDC represents a “strong, reliable and results-driven” alternative for political actors nationwide.

Binani, who was the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in the 2023 Adamawa election, previously contested against incumbent Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party in a highly competitive race.

The election attracted nationwide attention following a controversial declaration by the then Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hudu-Yunusa Ari, who announced Binani as winner while collation was still ongoing. The declaration was subsequently nullified by the Independent National Electoral Commission, which also suspended the official involved.
