Port Harcourt Confirmed As Host Of 2026 NWFL Super Six Showdown

Reports indicate that the tournament is scheduled to hold from June 5 to June 14, 2026, with six clubs set to compete for the league title at the end of the 2025/26 season.

Speaking on the development, NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, explained that the choice of Port Harcourt was influenced by the Rivers State Government’s continued support for women’s football, as well as the successful hosting of the league’s Annual General Assembly in the state last year.

The Super Six tournament will feature the top three teams from Groups A and B of the regular season in a round-robin format, with each club expected to play five matches over a nine-day period.

Defending champions Bayelsa Queens will compete alongside Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, Robo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons and first-time qualifiers Abia Angels.

The NWFL has produced four different champions in the last five editions of the Premiership, with Rivers Angels winning in 2021, Bayelsa Queens claiming the title in 2022 and 2025, Delta Queens emerging champions in 2023, and Edo Queens securing victory in 2024.

Officials stated that the outcome of the Super Six will also determine Nigeria’s representative at the WAFU-B qualifiers for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League and the 2027 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.

Participating teams are expected to arrive in Port Harcourt on June 5 for the draw ceremony and pre-match meeting ahead of the opening fixtures. Matchdays have been scheduled for June 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14, with rest days in between before the tournament concludes with the trophy presentation ceremony.
