PRP Removes Bauchi Chairman Amid Escalating Internal Party Crisis

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has announced the immediate removal of its Bauchi State Chairman, Abdulrahman Yusuf Muazu, amid growing internal tensions within the state chapter of the party.

According to Ireporter Online, the decision followed escalating disagreements triggered by the entry of Senator Shehu Buba Umar into the party and his subsequent emergence as its governorship candidate for the 2027 Bauchi State election. The development was reportedly overseen through a process linked to the state leadership structure previously headed by Muazu.

The decision was disclosed during a press briefing held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat by Ahmed Mohammed Bello, Secretary of Majidadi A Ward. He stated that the action was taken in line with the party’s constitution and based on the findings of a disciplinary committee report submitted on May 11, 2026.

The committee reportedly found Muazu guilty of insubordination and failure to comply with lawful directives from the party leadership. He was also accused of unlawfully delegating aspects of his official responsibilities to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, an act described as a breach of internal party regulations and a contributor to widening divisions within the structure.

Following the decision, the party declared that Muazu has been stripped of all authority to represent or act on behalf of the PRP, including the use of its name, symbols, and official platforms.

The party further announced that its State Youth Leader, Tijjani Abubakar Aliyu, has been appointed as acting chairman of the Bauchi State chapter pending further directives. Aliyu pledged to restore unity and stability within the party, stressing that the PRP would not endorse candidates without broad consultations with stakeholders, particularly members who recently defected from other political parties. He added that consultations would soon commence to finalize the party’s official candidates ahead of upcoming elections.
