INEC Drops Final List Of Candidates For June 2026 Bye-Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the official list of candidates fielded by various political parties for the upcoming bye-elections scheduled to hold on June 20, 2026, across several senatorial districts and federal constituencies in the country.

According to Ireporter Online, the list was released in a statement issued on Monday, detailing contestants who successfully emerged from party primaries to participate in the polls spanning Ondo, Nasarawa, Rivers, Enugu, Kebbi, and Kano States.

The affected seats include Ondo South Senatorial District, Nasarawa North Senatorial District, Rivers South East Senatorial District, Enugu North Senatorial District, the Kebbi State House of Assembly seat for Zuru Constituency, and the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of Kano State.

In Ondo South, Adesanya Olaoluwa is flying the flag of the APP, while Faduyile Francis Adedayo represents the APC, Akinwumi Adeolu Harrison is contesting under the APM, and Nejo Funso Clement is the candidate of the BP.

In Nasarawa North, Halilu Danladi Envwulu-Aza will contest on the APC platform, Maku Labaran on the Labour Party, John Paul Araneshri on the NNPP, and Emmanuel David Ombugadu on the PDP.

For Rivers South East, Douglas Fabeeke Beeka is the candidate of the AA, Osarosaka Ebenezer Erewari represents the APC, Sam Kinanee Barikpoa is contesting under the Labour Party, while Nwogu Olaka Johnson is the PDP flag bearer.

In Enugu North, Asogwa Ikeje Israel is contesting for the APC, Aneke Kingsley Chukwuebuka is on the BP platform, and Ezeme Nestor Chika represents the PDP.

In Kebbi State, Garba Aiki Rabiu is the APC candidate for the Zuru Constituency seat, while Aliyu Galadima Muhammad is contesting under the Labour Party.

For Kano State’s Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency, Rabiu Shuaibu is the APC candidate, Lawan Garba Haruna is representing the APM, and Abubakar Yahaya Muhammad is contesting under the Labour Party.

Recall that the Ondo South senatorial seat became vacant following the appointment of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, while the Rivers South East seat was left unoccupied after the passing of Senator Barinada Mpigi. In Nasarawa, the vacancy followed the death of Senator Godiya Akwashika, and in Enugu, the seat became vacant after Senator Okey Ezea’s demise.

INEC also confirmed that the Ekiti State governorship election will hold on the same date, setting the stage for a major nationwide electoral exercise.
