Katsina ADC Crisis Worsens As Former SSS DG Rebuffs Consensus Agreement

Daura, who spoke to his supporters in Katsina on Sunday, dismissed reports claiming that the party had already produced a governorship candidate through consensus, stressing that no such agreement was properly communicated or agreed upon by all aspirants. He also denied stepping down or shifting his ambition to contest for the Daura Senatorial District seat, reaffirming that his governorship aspiration remains unchanged.

“I entered the race for the governorship from the outset, and I have not changed that position. I remain fully committed to my aspiration,” he said.

His stance comes shortly after another aspirant and former Secretary to the Katsina State Government, Mustapha Inuwa, also rejected the selection process, alleging that no valid primary election was conducted in the state. Daura further argued that the procedure that reportedly produced candidates did not comply with the Electoral Act and the internal guidelines of the ADC.

He maintained that aspirants had consistently demanded either a transparent consensus process or direct primaries in line with electoral provisions, insisting that due process must be followed.

“There have been claims that a consensus was achieved, but none of the five aspirants has been clearly informed of the process that produced such an outcome,” he said.

Daura also expressed dissatisfaction with the consultation process among party stakeholders, alleging that aspirants were not adequately briefed on how the purported consensus was reached. He warned that failure to resolve the matter transparently could force him and his supporters to reconsider their political alignment, including possible legal action.

“If the law is not complied with, one of the things to do is to go to court and make sure that it is enforced,” he said.

He further maintained that Katsina State required urgent leadership attention, citing worsening security and economic challenges, while insisting he was qualified to contest the governorship position.

The internal dispute has further widened divisions within the ADC in Katsina, as aggrieved aspirants continue to demand fresh primaries. Meanwhile, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, has acknowledged shortcomings in the nationwide primary process but maintained that the issues were not severe enough to invalidate the exercise, adding that appeals are still being reviewed and no final result has been officially announced.
