Veteran Nigerian singer SkyB has expressed disappointment over what he described as a lack of support from several Port Harcourt-born artistes who achieved mainstream success after him, despite his contributions to the growth of the city’s music industry.

According to Ireporter Online, the singer made the remarks during a recent appearance on the KAA Truth podcast, where he reflected on his career journey, challenges, and the changing dynamics within the entertainment industry.

SkyB recalled that during the peak of his career, he actively supported emerging talents from Port Harcourt, including Mr. 2Kay and Timaya, dedicating both time and resources to help promote the city’s music scene.

He said those efforts were driven by a desire to elevate Port Harcourt music nationally, but lamented that many of the artistes he once assisted have failed to extend similar support now that his popularity has declined.

The veteran musician also mentioned Grammy-winning star Burna Boy, stating that he had hoped the singer and other successful artistes from the region would either collaborate with him or provide financial assistance to help revive his career, even though they did not work together during Burna Boy’s formative years.

Sharing one of his experiences, SkyB alleged that he once secured an opportunity for an artiste to perform alongside him at an event through a government official, but the performer allegedly declined because he did not want to share the stage with him.

He maintained that he had made significant sacrifices for the advancement of the Port Harcourt music industry and expected greater solidarity from those who benefited from the path he and others helped create.

SkyB further suggested that regional rivalry and envy may have contributed to the lack of support he has received, arguing that artistes from other ethnic groups might have been more willing to help one of their own regain relevance in the industry.
