APC Picks 40-Year-Old Sonayon-James As Hamzat’s Running Mate

According to Ireporter Online, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced 40-year-old Damilola Sonayon-James as the running mate to its Lagos State governorship candidate, Obafemi Hamzat.

Sonayon-James currently holds the position of deputy woman leader of the APC in Lagos State.

The announcement was made by Cornelius Ojelabi, Chairman of the Lagos APC and also chairman of the forum of APC state chairmen, who stated that the selection followed wide consultations and a rigorous screening process.

Ojelabi explained that the choice was guided by considerations such as competence, leadership ability, grassroots acceptance, loyalty to the party, and capacity to contribute meaningfully to the development of Lagos State. He noted that Sonayon-James distinguished herself through consistent service, dedication to party ideals, and a strong record of leadership across both public and private engagements.

He expressed confidence in the APC ticket, describing the Hamzat–Sonayon-James pairing as a strong team positioned to drive the state’s development agenda. He also called on residents of Lagos to support the party at the polls, stating that a vote for the APC represents continuity, prosperity, inclusive growth, and a greater Lagos.

Sonayon-James is a governance and development professional with over 15 years of experience spanning public policy, institutional development, sustainability, risk governance, human capital strategy, stakeholder engagement, and community development. She previously served as Supervisor for Agriculture and Social Services in Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
