Kwankwassiya Shuts Down NDC Crisis Rumours Ahead Of 2027

The spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya Movement and a member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Habibu Mailemo, has dismissed reports suggesting the party is grappling with an internal crisis, insisting that ongoing activities are part of the normal political process as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

According to Ireporter Online, Mailemo made the clarification during an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday, where he addressed concerns surrounding alleged disagreements, restructuring efforts, and candidate selection within the party.

He explained that every political party experiences debates, consultations, and competition ahead of major elections, stressing that such developments should not be mistaken for instability. Mailemo said the NDC is focused on producing credible candidates capable of leading the party into the 2027 polls.

He noted that contestation and differing opinions are inevitable in democratic politics but emphasized that the party has established mechanisms to manage disagreements and maintain cohesion. According to him, the NDC remains committed to strengthening its internal structures rather than being distracted by speculation of division.

The Kwankwasiyya spokesperson also maintained that discussions concerning party leadership and organizational arrangements do not indicate a breakdown within the party, reaffirming the movement’s dedication to unity, discipline, and internal democracy.

Mailemo disclosed that the movement is carefully reviewing recent developments relating to the party’s structure and internal processes but assured members and supporters that it would continue to operate strictly within the party’s constitutional framework.

He described the Kwankwasiyya Movement as one of the most disciplined political groups, adding that its members are committed to supporting the success of whichever platform they belong to while respecting established rules and procedures.

Addressing allegations of disputes over candidate selection, Mailemo insisted that the NDC conducted its primaries nationwide on the 29th of last month in line with due process. He explained that the exercise was preceded by broad consensus-building efforts involving relevant stakeholders, ensuring that no interested party was sidelined.

According to him, candidates who emerged from the primaries have already had their names forwarded to the party leadership in compliance with electoral requirements.

He further stated that the Kwankwasiyya Movement would not endorse any action that contradicts party regulations or the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stressing that respect for the rule of law remains one of the movement’s core principles.

Mailemo argued that there is significant integration between Kwankwasiyya members and other NDC stakeholders, making it difficult to distinguish one group from another during political activities. He added that even recently admitted members actively participated in the consensus meetings and primary elections without raising objections.

He maintained that the entire process was transparent and widely accepted by participants at the time it was conducted, noting that claims of a crisis only emerged several days after the conclusion of the primaries.

The comments come amid reports linking the alleged crisis in the Kano State chapter of the NDC to the delay in the release of the party’s primary election results.
