Kenneth Okonkwo Fires Back: ‘You’re As Foolish As Your Peter Obi
According to Ireporter Online, veteran Nollywood actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has launched a fresh criticism against his former political ally, Peter Obi, and some of his supporters, accusing them of intolerance to opposing views.
Okonkwo, in a statement on Wednesday, alleged that some supporters of the former Labour Party presidential candidate infiltrated his platform to monitor or disrupt discussions. He condemned the action and insisted that Obi and his camp are unable to tolerate criticism.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain also faulted Obi for allegedly taking legal action against individuals, including activist Deji Adeyanju and himself, over comments made in exercise of free expression. He argued that such actions are inconsistent with democratic principles and questioned Obi’s suitability for public office if he cannot endure criticism.
Okonkwo further claimed that a leader who is intolerant of dissent in a civilian capacity would abuse state power if elected into office, adding that Nigeria requires a more tolerant and democratic-minded president.
He also maintained that he would continue to respond firmly to any supporter of the former Anambra State governor who engages him on his platform in a disrespectful manner.
In his words, he described Obi as someone who “cannot stand the truth” and criticised what he termed excessive sensitivity to criticism, while comparing reactions from other political figures who, according to him, do not resort to lawsuits over public commentary in a democratic setting.
Okonkwo, however, reiterated his stance that he would no longer tolerate what he described as disruptive engagements from Obi’s supporters on his platforms.
It would be recalled that Okonkwo had previously accused Obi of electoral misconduct and bribery allegations, a development that led to legal action by Obi, who is now the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 elections.
