Abure Accuses Peter Obi And Alex Otti Of Destabilising Labour Party
Former Labour Party (LP) Chairman, Julius Abure, has accused the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, of being responsible for the internal crisis currently rocking the Labour Party.
According to Ireporter Online, Abure made the allegation during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he insisted that the party had been relatively stable before what he described as the creation of an “illegal caretaker committee” in Umuahia allegedly backed by Obi and Otti. He maintained that the move marked the beginning of the leadership tussle and has since remained the root of the ongoing factional disputes within the party.
Abure argued that the recurring mention of Obi and Otti in discussions surrounding the party’s crisis was evidence of their involvement, stating that the issues would persist until the matter is fully resolved. He also dismissed claims that he was an outsider in the party, instead describing Senator Nenadi Usman as the interloper in the ongoing leadership struggle.
He further referenced various court rulings on the party’s leadership, noting that the Federal High Court had previously validated the 2024 convention in Nnewi and recognised his leadership, a position he said was later upheld by the Court of Appeal. However, he acknowledged that fresh legal actions initiated earlier this year by Nenadi Usman led to another judgment, which has also been appealed.
Abure added that his faction remains confident the Supreme Court will ultimately determine the authentic leadership of the party, stressing that legal processes must be fully exhausted in line with the Electoral Act before any final conclusion can be drawn.
