Former Kogi Deputy Governor Loses Mother

A former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Dr. Philip Salawu, has been thrown into mourning following the death of his mother, Mrs. Alice Bilikisu Salawu, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of the state.

According to Ireporter Online, family sources confirmed that the late matriarch died at the age of 107, describing her as a respected community figure whose long life was marked by devotion, humility, and strong family values. The family further noted that Mrs. Salawu was a committed Christian whose legacy of faith and wisdom left a lasting impact on those around her. Burial arrangements, they added, will be conducted in line with Christian rites.

Dr. Salawu served as Deputy Governor of Kogi State for two terms between 2003 and 2012 under former Governor Ibrahim Idris.

In a separate development, the Emir of Gazargamu in Yobe State, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ahmad Tijjani Ibn Saleh, has also died following a prolonged illness.

The monarch passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt, where he had been receiving medical treatment. His son, Engr. Tijjani Hamisu Bala, confirmed the incident in Damaturu, describing his late father as a revered traditional ruler, mentor, and father figure who dedicated his life to serving humanity and his people.

He added that the late emir “returned to his Creator” after battling illness, expressing profound grief over the loss.
