According to IReporter Online, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) suffered another setback on Wednesday in the House of Representatives as the lawmaker representing Misau/Dambam Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, Aliyu Misau, officially defected to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

The development comes just days after four other members of the Bauchi caucus in the House of Representatives, all elected under the PDP, also dumped the party for the APM, further intensifying concerns over the opposition party’s declining influence in the state.

Misau’s defection was formally communicated in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, which was read during plenary on Wednesday.

In the letter, the lawmaker attributed his decision to the prolonged leadership crisis within the PDP, stating that the internal disputes had made it difficult for him to effectively represent his constituency.

He expressed appreciation to the party for the platform provided to him to serve, but stressed that the ongoing crisis had hindered his ability to contribute meaningfully to the development of Misau/Dambam Federal Constituency.

The latest defection is widely viewed as part of a broader political realignment in Bauchi State following the reported move of Governor Bala Mohammed from the PDP to the APM. Since then, several political figures and party loyalists in the state have either joined the APM or indicated interest in doing so, signaling a growing shift in the state’s political landscape.
