Lagos Now More Expensive Than Los Angeles — BNXN Sparks Reactions

Nigerian singer Daniel Benson, popularly known as BNXN, has stirred reactions after claiming that the cost of living in Lagos is higher than in Los Angeles, United States.

According to Ireporter Online, the singer made the remark during a recent livestream on TikTok, where he compared living conditions in both cities.

BNXN stated that beyond regular expenses, life in the United States feels more structured and less pressured compared to Lagos, noting that residents in America do not experience frequent street-level demands for money.

He said, “I was telling someone, since I got to the United States, nobody has asked me to give them money. And people are also suffering here. Lagos is super expensive. It is more expensive than Los Angeles. Aside from housing, every other thing in LA is not expensive. For instance, I am paying $12,000 monthly for my rent. Here you just pay your rent, and you’re good.”

In a related development, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Economic Affairs, Tope Fasua, has urged Nigerians to adopt more conservative spending habits amid rising economic pressure.

Fasua made the remarks during a members-only Coffee Hangout organised by the Kay Hikers Club in Abuja, where he advised citizens to align their expenses with their income levels.

Responding to concerns raised by participants over the worsening cost of living, insecurity, and declining purchasing power, Fasua acknowledged rising prices but maintained that Nigerians could still manage their resources with discipline.

He argued that a modest family could survive on ₦10,000 for several days, urging households to prioritise essential needs and embrace more frugal lifestyles.

Fasua further noted that while the government understands the economic challenges facing citizens, it cannot meet every expectation, stressing that individuals must adapt to prevailing realities.
