According to Ireporter Online, the Anambra State Government has confirmed the arrest of Pastor Harrison Charles, the founder of Day Spring Assembly in Awada, Onitsha, following serious allegations levelled against him by members of his congregation.

The pastor was reportedly taken into custody after a viral video surfaced online in which he was accused of luring married women away from their husbands and allegedly coercing some church members into engaging in wife-swapping practices within the church.

Authorities disclosed that operatives of the Agunechemba security outfit effected the arrest after the allegations gained public attention, amid the state government’s ongoing campaign against individuals suspected of operating fraudulent religious institutions.

The Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Media, Dr. Ejimofor Opara, confirmed the development in a social media post, noting that the suspect had since been transferred to the police for further investigation. He added that the Anambra State Police Command and the state government were conducting a joint inquiry into the matter.

Reports also indicate that some members of the church, who claim to be victims, accused the pastor of destabilising families and influencing marital breakdowns within the congregation. Further allegations suggest that he compelled certain members to participate in wife-swapping arrangements.

In a statement, Opara disclosed that about 11 babies were allegedly discovered at the pastor’s residence during the arrest. He further noted that the pastor claimed paternity of the children, stating they were from 11 different wives, while also allegedly admitting uncertainty about the total number of wives and children he has.

Authorities have maintained that investigations are ongoing to establish the authenticity of the claims, urging members of the public with relevant information to come forward and assist security agencies.

The government reiterated its commitment to thoroughly probe the matter and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full weight of the law.
