Army Arrests 46 Suspected Illegal Immigrants In Ogun State

According to Ireporter Online, troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, have apprehended 46 suspected irregular immigrants during a coordinated security operation in Ogun State.

The suspects were arrested in targeted raids conducted across Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese, and neighbouring communities within the state.

This was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson of the 35 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Idereghi Samuel Akari, who disclosed that the operation commenced on June 11, 2026, leading to multiple arrests at different locations within the affected areas.

Preliminary findings revealed that the individuals were allegedly residing in Ogun State for approximately six months without valid immigration documentation. The Army noted that the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance security surveillance and ensure that undocumented migrants are identified and processed in accordance with the law.

Akari further stated that the suspects were interrogated after their arrest, during which they claimed to be merchants and workers associated with QNet, an online marketing platform dealing in various products and services.

The arrested individuals comprise 18 nationals of Burkina Faso, 23 from Côte d’Ivoire, four from Togo, and one from Senegal, with the group made up of 36 males and 10 females.

Following the operation, the suspects were handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service, Ogun State Command, for further investigation and appropriate administrative action in line with existing legal provisions.

The Nigerian Army reiterated that the operation was part of broader inter-agency efforts to strengthen border security, protect communities, and ensure compliance with immigration laws across the state, amid ongoing nationwide security enforcement activities targeting irregular migration and suspicious movements.

Security authorities also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to relevant agencies as part of collective efforts to maintain public safety.
