Lagos Government Shuts Down Church And Other Businesses Over Environmental Violations

According to Ireporter Online, the Lagos State Government has sealed 12 establishments across various parts of the state, including a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Surulere, over multiple environmental violations such as noise and air pollution, as well as failure to comply with regulatory directives.

The enforcement exercise, carried out on Monday, June 15, 2026, was conducted by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) in collaboration with the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI). Authorities said the affected businesses were shut down after repeatedly ignoring warnings and abatement notices issued for non-compliance with environmental standards.

Among the sealed premises was a Cherubim and Seraphim Church located on Olumuyiwa Jacobs Street, Aguda, Surulere, which was shut over persistent noise pollution. Also affected was Westgate Arena Club on Apostolic Church Close, Olowora, closed for similar noise-related infractions, while Golden Click Hotel on Cados Road, Baruwa, was sealed for disregarding official directives.

Others include 14:02 Lounge and Bar at Aralamo Bus Stop, Ipaja, shut down over noise pollution; Kilo Hotel on Adeniyi Adefioye Street, Surulere, for non-compliance; Max Lounge on Bode Thomas Street, also in Surulere, for combined noise and air pollution; and The Hotel Macs on Enitan Street, Aguda, sealed for regulatory breaches.

Hotel Bel Am on Agbebi Street, Ijesha, and Fecomillion Hotel on Salami Bashorun Street, Surulere, were also shut for environmental violations. PetroSafe Gas Station on Ijesha Road was sealed after allegedly obstructing enforcement officers and failing to comply with directives.

Others affected in the operation include Serena Hotel and Suites on Ashoge Street, off Cele Bus Stop, Surulere, closed for non-compliance, CitiLounge on Mobe Street, Ishaga, sealed over noise pollution, and Gariot on Ogunlana Drive, also shut for obstruction of officials and regulatory breaches.

LASEPA stated that the operation was carried out under the directive of the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, as part of ongoing efforts to enforce environmental laws and ensure a healthier and more habitable environment for residents.
