Sowore’s Bail Revoked By Federal High Court
According to Ireporter Online, Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has revoked the bail previously granted to the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, following his failure to appear in court for the continuation of his trial on Tuesday.
At the resumed hearing, prosecution counsel, Kehinde Akinlolu, informed the court that Sowore was absent despite being aware of the scheduled proceedings. He urged the court to withdraw the bail, arguing that the defendant’s absence amounted to a breach of the conditions attached to his release and also alleged repeated attempts to stall the trial.
In his ruling, Justice Umar noted that although Sowore had written to the court seeking an adjournment, no reason was provided to justify his absence. The judge held that the unexplained request was insufficient to excuse his non-appearance and subsequently ordered the revocation of his bail. The matter was adjourned till June 22 for further hearing, meaning Sowore is expected to appear before the court as proceedings continue in the long-running case.
