Accord Party Will Still Be On 2027 Ballot, Court Ruling Not Final – Nyameh Insists

According to Ireporter Online, the governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Taraba State, Professor Jerome Nyameh, has urged members and supporters of the party to remain calm and steadfast following a recent Federal High Court judgment.

Nyameh maintained that the ruling should not be interpreted as the end of the party’s political journey, insisting that it does not invalidate Accord Party’s participation in future elections, including the 2027 general polls.

His remarks come in the wake of a Federal High Court decision in Abuja, which directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties over alleged failure to meet constitutional performance requirements.

The judgment, delivered by Justice Peter Lifu in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2637/2026, was filed by the National Forum of Former Legislators. The court held that the affected parties had consistently failed to meet the electoral performance thresholds required under Section 225A of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act 2022, and INEC regulations. The parties affected include the Action Peoples Party, Action Alliance, Accord Party, Zenith Labour Party, and ADC.

Reacting to the development, Nyameh appealed to party faithful not to panic, stressing that the matter remains subject to further judicial review. He described the ruling as an initial stage in a broader legal process and expressed confidence that the party would pursue all constitutional avenues available.

He reassured supporters that Accord Party would remain on the ballot in 2027, noting that the Nigerian judicial system provides for appeals up to the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.

Nyameh further emphasized that the Federal High Court is a trial court and that the legal process is far from concluded. He urged members to remain focused, united, and law-abiding, while continuing grassroots mobilisation efforts across all levels of the party structure.

According to him, the party remains a viable political platform with growing national acceptance and established structures across the country. He added that preparations toward future political engagements, including the 2027 general elections, are ongoing and will not be disrupted by the court ruling.

The Accord Party candidate also reiterated that the party’s internal cohesion remains strong, calling on members to avoid actions capable of undermining its unity and stability. He urged continued mobilisation at ward, local government, and state levels, insisting that the party would remain active in Nigeria’s democratic space.

Nyameh further pointed to the involvement of prominent political figures within the party, including Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, as evidence of Accord Party’s national relevance and growing appeal ahead of future elections.

He assured supporters that the party leadership remains committed to strategic legal engagement and political consolidation, stressing that Accord Party will continue to position itself as a credible alternative platform for Nigerians ahead of 2027.
