Odunsi said eight people were involved in the crash, with four adult males losing their lives. One other male adult sustained injuries, while three people escaped unhurt.

According to the FRSC, preliminary investigations indicated that speeding and wrongful overtaking were the primary causes of the crash. The Mitsubishi driver was reportedly travelling at high speed when the vehicle collided with the moving HOWO truck while attempting to overtake.

Fatigue was also identified as a contributing factor, with the driver reportedly experiencing fatigue during the journey.

The FRSC rescue team received information about the crash at 4:33 a.m. and arrived at the scene six minutes later, at 4:39 a.m.
