I Have Never Met FBI” — Peter Obi Denies Link To Alleged File
The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has dismissed claims that he has a file with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), insisting that he has never had any dealings with the agency.
According to reports, Obi made the clarification during an interview on 90 Minutes Africa while reacting to comments by Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, who had claimed that presidential candidates in Nigeria have FBI files.
Obi said he was unaware of having any such file and maintained that he had never met or dealt with the FBI.
“I don’t know. I’ve never met the FBI,” he said.
The former Anambra State governor also called for the release of his academic records, urging the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), to make available all documents contained in his academic file.
“I’m begging the University of Nigeria to make available every document in my file, how I was admitted and all my results from year one to final year,” Obi said.
He extended the call for transparency to other institutions where he attended executive programmes, including Lagos Business School, the London School of Economics, Columbia Business School, Kellogg Business School, Harvard Business School, Oxford, Cambridge, INSEAD and IMD.
According to Obi, anyone seeking public office should be prepared to have their records examined by the public.
“If you seek public life, you should subject yourself to public scrutiny because you are a leader and you must exemplify the values that make society work,” he said.
Obi further challenged other presidential candidates to embrace similar levels of transparency by making relevant records available for public scrutiny.
His comments come amid renewed political exchanges and scrutiny of the backgrounds and records of politicians positioning themselves for the 2027 presidential election.
