Nollywood Industry In Concern As Actor Battles Health Crisis

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has confirmed that veteran Nollywood actor, Benedict Johnson, has been hospitalised and is currently scheduled to undergo surgery over an undisclosed medical condition.

According to Ireporter Online, the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Abubakar Yakubu, disclosed this on Saturday while addressing journalists, following widespread concern sparked by a viral video showing the actor undergoing an MRI scan.

Yakubu explained that the guild is fully aware of Johnson’s health situation and has already stepped in to provide institutional support to ensure he receives the necessary medical care and successfully undergoes the required surgical procedure.

“Yes, he is ill and requires surgery. The guild is aware, and we are giving him full support to ensure the surgery is carried out,” he stated.

Benedict Johnson, an alumnus of Abia State University, began his career in Nollywood with early appearances in classic productions such as Living in Bondage and Stolen Bible, after initially working as a recording artist in the late 1980s.

Meanwhile, Nollywood has also been thrown into mourning following the final burial of actor Alexx Ekubo, who was laid to rest on Thursday, June 18, in his hometown, Arochukwu, Abia State.

The funeral ceremony drew a large crowd of family members, colleagues, and fans from across the country, who gathered to pay their last respects to the late actor whose career spanned over a decade.

In a deeply emotional atmosphere, mourners watched as the late actor was committed to mother earth amid tears, prayers, and tributes, marking a solemn farewell to a beloved figure in the Nigerian film industry.
