Agbese Slams Agbedi: “You’re Not Settled, Yet Demanding President Bola Tinubu’s Resignation

Agbese, a member of the Labour Party, described the resignation calls as mere opposition rhetoric, insisting that they are politically motivated and do not contribute meaningfully to addressing insecurity in the country.

His reaction follows a recent statement by the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi, who had urged President Tinubu to either resolve Nigeria’s worsening security and economic challenges or step down from office.

However, Agbese dismissed Agbedi’s position as inflammatory, arguing that it was aimed at scoring political points rather than offering constructive solutions.

He stressed that insecurity remains a national concern that requires unity and collaboration among all Nigerians, particularly in supporting the nation’s security agencies rather than engaging in divisive political statements.

According to him, opposition lawmakers should focus on providing practical solutions and strengthening institutions rather than making statements that could undermine ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability.

Agbese further alleged that the renewed calls for President Tinubu’s resignation are being influenced by external political interests ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He maintained that insecurity in Nigeria predates the current administration and requires sustained investment, intelligence coordination, and collective responsibility from all stakeholders.

The lawmaker also disclosed that the House of Representatives has scheduled an engagement with security chiefs to discuss the country’s security situation and explore lasting solutions.

Commending the efforts of the armed forces and security agencies, Agbese urged Nigerians to continue supporting them, noting that their sacrifices are critical in the fight against terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping.

He reaffirmed confidence in the Tinubu administration’s commitment to strengthening national security architecture and called on political actors across party lines to prioritize national interest above partisan considerations.

Agbese concluded that lasting peace can only be achieved through unity, cooperation, and a shared resolve to protect Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
