Grammy-nominated Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has said that the legendary status of his late father, Fela Kuti, was significantly influenced by his privileged family background.

According to Ireporter Online, Seun Kuti made the remarks during an interview on Ada’s Room, where he argued that Fela’s rise to global recognition was shaped not only by talent but also by the opportunities that came with being born into a prominent family.

He explained that Fela, the son of renowned nationalist and women’s rights activist Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, benefited from exposure and advantages that helped position him for success, insisting that “nothing comes from nothing.”

Seun noted that while talent and hard work were essential, they were not the sole factors behind achievement, stressing that his family places strong emphasis on discipline and effort despite its status.

He also addressed conversations around nepotism, acknowledging that his family name may open doors but does not guarantee success in the entertainment industry.

Seun added that individuals from well-known families often face higher expectations and pressure to perform, explaining that public perception assumes inherent greatness, which can make career growth more demanding.
