A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for retaining Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election, describing the decision as a major boost to the party’s electoral prospects.

According to Ireporter Online, Kwankwaso, who serves as the Director of Finance at the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, made the remarks in a statement he personally signed on Saturday.

He said the President’s decision has strengthened confidence among APC members and supporters across Northern Nigeria, particularly after the Tinubu-Shettima nomination forms were submitted to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja.

Kwankwaso noted that the move has also silenced speculations and disappointed those who anticipated that President Tinubu would replace Shettima ahead of the 2027 presidential race.

Describing the decision as a significant political development, he stated that retaining Shettima has further united the North while reinforcing the APC’s chances of securing victory in the next general election.

He also praised the Vice President for his commitment to promoting peace and unity in Northern Nigeria despite attempts by some individuals to create divisions within the region. Kwankwaso further acknowledged Shettima’s role in representing President Tinubu at several international engagements, describing his performance as commendable.

Expressing optimism about the party’s future, the APC stalwart said the Tinubu-Shettima ticket is well-positioned to attract overwhelming support from Northern voters during the 2027 elections.

He added that beyond improving the presidential ticket’s chances, retaining Shettima would also strengthen the electoral fortunes of APC candidates seeking governorship, National Assembly and other elective positions across the North.
