First Lady Sends Message To Davido, Burna Boy, Asake Over Support For Poor Nigerians

According to Ireporter Online, the First Lady made the call on Saturday during the launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme in Lokoja, Kogi State, where she urged prominent entertainers to emulate international celebrities who are actively involved in humanitarian activities.

Oluremi Tinubu specifically encouraged leading Afrobeats stars, including Davido, Burna Boy and Asake, to create platforms that would provide assistance to people facing economic hardship.

She noted that while enjoying luxury and success was not wrong, successful individuals should also dedicate part of their resources to improving the lives of others.

The First Lady referenced global music star Akon as an example of an entertainer who has used his platform and resources for charitable causes, stressing that Nigerian artists could make a similar impact through foundations and community projects.

“Good cars are good, a Maybach is good, a Rolls-Royce is good, but still, you can help,” she said, adding that celebrities have the capacity to contribute positively to society.

Her remarks came amid discussions surrounding her previous comments on empowering women through small-scale businesses. She defended the initiative, explaining that the Renewed Hope Initiative’s grassroots programme was already supporting petty traders, including pepper sellers, vegetable vendors, akara sellers and other small business owners.

Tinubu stated that the challenges facing the government were enormous and called for support from individuals and organisations capable of assisting vulnerable Nigerians.

She also shared the story of an Abuja-based graduate who turned to akara production after struggling to secure employment. According to her, the individual received support through the initiative, expanded the business and now provides jobs for 12 other people.

The First Lady maintained that collective efforts from government, private individuals and influential Nigerians would help create more opportunities and improve the welfare of citizens.
