Journalists Denied Access As Makinde Visits Rescued Oyo Victims (Video)
According to Ireporter Online, journalists were denied access to the 2 Division Medical Centre, Military Hospital in Ibadan on Saturday, where pupils and teachers recently rescued from captivity in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State were undergoing medical evaluation.
Security personnel stationed at the facility reportedly prevented media representatives from entering the hospital premises as military authorities maintained strict control over movement within the medical centre. Governor Seyi Makinde was later granted access to visit the rescued victims, while journalists remained outside the hospital.
Several government officials were also reportedly made to wait outside as military personnel carried out internal security screening and clearance procedures before allowing access into the facility.
The atmosphere around the hospital remained heavily secured, with operatives closely monitoring everyone seeking entry. Despite the presence of journalists and government representatives, military authorities did not immediately provide any official explanation for restricting media access.
Governor Makinde was eventually the only visitor permitted into the hospital to meet the freed pupils and teachers, who were receiving medical attention following their rescue.
The victims had been abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area and spent nearly two months in captivity before regaining their freedom. Their release has brought relief to families, residents and other stakeholders who had endured weeks of anxiety over their safety.
The incident had earlier sparked protests by teachers and renewed concerns over the security of schools across Oyo State, prompting the closure of public schools as part of measures introduced to address the security challenges.
Following their rescue, the pupils and teachers were taken to the military hospital for medical examination and further assessment before the next phase of their rehabilitation.
