Former SDP Governorship Candidate Dumps Party, Joins PDP In Gombe

According to Ireporter Online, Lazarus announced his defection after a series of consultations with his political associates, supporters, and stakeholders, saying the decision was reached after carefully reviewing available political options.

The former SDP governorship hopeful, who contested the 2023 Gombe State governorship election under the party’s platform, also declared his support for the PDP candidate, Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, describing him as the most suitable person to lead the state.

Lazarus, in a statement released on Wednesday, explained that his decision to join the PDP was based on his belief in Pantami’s leadership qualities, competence, and ability to drive development in Gombe State.

He stated that he was convinced that Pantami possesses the vision, integrity, and capacity needed to provide effective governance and promote progress across the state.

The former SDP candidate, who previously served as the state chairman of the party and as General Manager of Radio Gombe, urged his supporters and residents of Gombe State to support the PDP candidate, insisting that Pantami remains the strongest contender in the race.

Lazarus called on his followers to unite behind the PDP, saying such support would contribute to achieving improved governance and sustainable development for the people of Gombe.

Reacting to the development, the Gombe State chapter of the PDP welcomed Lazarus and his supporters into the party, describing the move as a major boost to its political strength ahead of the election.

The party noted that the defection reflected increasing confidence among political stakeholders in Pantami’s candidacy and the PDP’s vision for the state.

The PDP further assured the new members of equal opportunities within the party and expressed commitment to working with all members toward building a united, peaceful, and prosperous Gombe State.
