Juventus’ entire board of directors has resigned, including President Andrea Agnelli and CEO Maurizio Arrivabene, according to a statement released by the Italian soccer club on Monday.

The decision to resign collectively came after an extraordinary meeting on Monday to obtain “new legal and accounting opinions” from independent experts, according to the statement.

In recent months, prosecutors and the Italian market regulator Consob investigated the Serie A team’s financial statements for alleged false accounting and market manipulation. The company has denied all allegations of wrongdoing.

The board agreed that it was in the best interests of the club for a new board to take over at Juventus, based on Agnelli’s proposal.

Agnelli’s decade in charge of an unprecedented period of dominance at the Allianz Arena, including a nine-year run of Serie A titles, is now over.

The board appointed Maurizio Scanavino as General Manager in its final meeting, until a new board of directors is confirmed in a meeting scheduled for January 18.

Juve, also known as La Vecchia Signora – The Old Lady – lost €254.3 million ($256.95 million) in 2021/22, the largest recorded loss in Serie A history.

Juve is third in Serie A, 10 points behind leader Napoli, but has yet to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League.
