BREAKING: Ekiti Tribunal Delivers Verdict On Governor Oyebanji’s Election
The Ekiti State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, sitting in Ado Ekiti, upheld the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, in the state’s governorship election in June.
Oyebanji received 187,057 votes, defeating his two main opponents, Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Bisi Kolawole of the People’s Democratic Party.
The SDP came in second with 82,211 votes, while the PDP came in third with 67,457 votes.

Unsatisfied with the election results, Oni of the SDP filed a petition at the tribunal on July 7 challenging the declaration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, as the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He based his case on alleged election rigging through voter inducement and the bypass of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) at some polling stations; the authenticity of the WAEC certificate presented by the All Progressives Congress’s Deputy Governorship candidate, Monisade Afuye, among other grounds.
The Tribunal dismissed the petition of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, Mr Segun Oni, in its Ado-Ekiti judgment on Thursday.
All issues in contention against Oni and his party, SDP, were resolved in the judgment read by the Chairman, Justice Wilfred Kpochi, and a member of the Panel, Justice Sa’ad Zadawa.
The Panel determined that Oni’s petition against the return of Oyebanji and Afuye “failed woefully head or tail.”
