Aggrieved Governors Dumped PDP? – Campaign Council Makes Huge Revelation

Dele Momodu, the Director of Strategic Communications for the Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, has stated that the party’s aggrieved governors have not dumped the Peoples Democratic Party and that the campaign remains steadfast, focused, and committed to the reconciliation process with the G5 governors.

Momodu stated that the G5 governors – Rivers State Governor Nyesome Wike and his colleagues in Benue State – Samuel Ortom, Oyo – Seyi Makinde, Enugu – Ifeanyi Ugwanyi, and Abia – Okezie Ikpeazu – were still respected leaders of the party, adding that they would continue to work for the reconciliation process despite their anger.

Momodu stated this during a press conference on Thursday in Abuja while responding to questions from journalists at the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Office.

In his words: ‘’I have no idea whether they have dumped the party. The day they have dumped (the party), they will announce that they have dumped the party and you will be the first to know.’’

The G5 govs had withdrawn from the Atiku Campaign Council, citing the refusal of the PDP National Chairman, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, to resign over lopsidedness in the party’s leadership hierarchy.

Governor Wike invited some leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress this week to commission projects carried out by the state government and previous romances with members of the current administration. This action raised concerns within the PDP that he might dump the party.

The governor also offered logistics assistance to Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi if he planned to visit Rivers State for his rally.

He further stated, ”As for the Atiku campaign, we remain steadfast, we remain focused and nothing distracts our attention. So far, they are still in the party, and we are happy they are at the party. There is still room for reconciliation, all they are saying is that they are not happy and we will continue to pray that peace will reign in the party.”

On the economy, he revealed that as the PDP’s presidential candidate and former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s vice president, he was limited in the roles he played, saying he was assigned to lead the country’s economic recovery team, which he did well.

‘’The specific role given to our principal was in the area of the economy. We had the best under that government and he has been able to assemble the best brains at home and abroad. We are very proud, and that is why he said he will continue from where he stopped and that is why we are using ‘Recover Nigeria.’

On the issue of the sitting government’s promises to provide jobs for youths and security, among other things, he explained that the government had fallen short of expectations because they couldn’t give what they didn’t have.
