Thousands Of APC Supporters Join PDP In North Western State (PHOTOS)

Mallam Saidu Umar FCNA, Sokoto State PDP Governorship Candidate, has welcomed into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2,343 APC supporters who recently defected in Mainiyo Area of Sokoto North Local Government Area of the State.

According to a statement signed by Nafiu Muhammad Lema, Umar received the new PDP members at an event to inaugurate the Ubandoma/Sagir Mainiyo Old Market Development Association and simultaneously launch the empowerment programme initiated by the association in the area, which is chaired by Sokoto-based businessman, Alh Abdulrashid Maccido.

Umar, who is also Mallam Ubandoma Sokoto, assured the defectors that they will be included in all party activities, especially now that campaigns have begun, and that the PDP will triumph in the next general election. He charged them with putting more effort into gaining support and promoting the party and its candidates in the area.

He insisted that the PDP could only overthrow the failed APC and Nigeria’s leadership through grassroots mobilization.

According to Umar, the administration in Sokoto State is working hard to ensure that the electorate reaps the benefits of democracy. He used the opportunity to ask the people of the state to give the party another chance to sustain good governance in the upcoming elections. The Mainiyo area is regarded as one of the APC’s metropolitan strongholds.

Outlining his agenda for empowerment programs, the Governorship Flagbearer stated that if elected, his administration will provide opportunities for the state’s teeming young and female populations. He reiterated that empowering youth and women in various fields of endeavor will be at the top of his administration’s agenda.

He praised the association’s Chairman, Alh Abdulrashid Maccido, for empowering men and women in the area and urged other business people in the party to follow suit. Approximately 300 people benefited from motorcycles, sewing machines, bags of rice, and bundles of female rappers.

The Honourable Commissioners for Local Government Affairs, Animal Health and Fisheries, and Commerce and Industry, Hon Abdullahi Maigwandu, Professor Abdulqadir Junaidu, and Hon. Bashir Gidado, accompanied him to the event. Others included the Chairmen of the Local Government Councils of Sokoto North and Sokoto South, Mustapha Shehu Sokoto, and Faruku Sayudi.

Mustapha Lanas, representative of the PDP State Chairman, was also present, as was Alh Hayatu Tafida, PDP Sokoto North 2 Candidate, Faruku Shehu, Alh Kasimu Ummarun Kwabo, Alh Yahaya Dallatu, Alh Muazu Zabira, and Alhaji Sidi Bello, Permanent Secretary.
