Adelabu Clears Air On Alleged Defection To SDP, Reaffirms APC Loyalty

The immediate past Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports alleging that he intends to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Ireporter Online, Adelabu’s position was contained in a statement issued on his behalf by his media aide, Femi Awogboro, in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday, in response to circulating claims on social media suggesting he had concluded plans to leave the ruling party.

The reports, which emerged online on Tuesday, alleged that the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria was preparing to join the SDP. However, Adelabu described the claims as false, baseless, and deliberately fabricated to mislead the public.

He maintained that he remains a committed and loyal member of the APC, stressing that he has no intention of defecting to any political platform. The statement further noted that those behind the rumours were engaged in political mischief aimed at creating unnecessary attention and false narratives around his political future.

Adelabu’s camp also condemned the attempt to associate him with a non-existent defection plan, describing it as disrespectful and urging the public to disregard such claims. He reaffirmed his focus on his political engagements within the APC and called on his supporters in Oyo State and beyond to ignore the speculation.
