[BREAKING] Alleged Terrorism: Lagos Eze Ndigbo Loses In Court (DETAILS)
Justice Yetunde Adesanya of the Lagos State High Court, sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square, rejected the bail application of Frederick Nwajagu, the Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate, who is facing charges related to terrorism.
The judge cited the seriousness of the offence and the severity of its punishment as reasons for refusing bail.
Nwajagu is being tried on a nine-count charge, including an attempt to commit acts of terrorism, financing terrorism, participating in terrorism, and supporting a proscribed entity. He had applied for bail on July 25, 2023, citing medical reports and asserting that he was not a flight risk.

However, at the resumed hearing on Friday, the court declined the bail application and ordered an accelerated hearing. Justice Adesanya granted the request for an accelerated hearing due to the gravity of the charges and evidence before the court.
The judge also directed correctional facility officials to facilitate the defendant’s visit to a government hospital for medical treatment. The hearing was adjourned until October 3, 2023.
During the previous hearing, the defendant’s counsel argued for bail based on his medical condition and family responsibilities, stating that he was not a flight risk. The prosecution, represented by the Lagos state Deputy Director for Public Prosecutions, Jonathan Ogunsanya, opposed the bail application, highlighting the different charges brought against the defendant by the police and the attorney general.
The Lagos state Government accused Nwajagu of violating Section 403(2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, and Sections 12(a) (c), 18, 21, and 29 of the Terrorism (Prevention & Prohibition) Act, 2022. The arrest of Nwajagu by the Department of State Services was related to alleged threats of inviting members of the Indigenous People of Biafra to Lagos to secure properties of Igbo people in the state.
