BREAKING: Bad News Hits ‘Obidients’, Peter Obi As Court Disqualifies Labour Party Candidate For February 25 Election
Chief Victor Umeh, the Labour Party senatorial candidate for Anambra Central zone in the February 25 general election, has been disqualified by a Federal High Court 1 sitting in Awka.
On Friday, the Federal High Court 1, Awka, presided over by Justice H. A. Nganjiwa, disqualified Umeh for failing to comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
In a three-hour decision, Nganjiwa disqualified Umeh for failing to comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act regarding his membership status in the party primary.
The court noted that there was no evidence that Umeh’s resignation letter to the All Progressives Grand Alliance leadership was actually received by the party.
According to the court, his name was still on the APGA membership list on September 30, 2022, when he ran in the party’s primary.
It also stated that Umeh’s name was not on the Labour Party membership register as of the LP’s primary date of June 3, 2022.
As a result, the court declared the earlier publication of Umeh’s name as a candidate by the Independent National Electoral Commission as null and void, because he failed to comply with the relevant provisions of the Electoral Act and the LP constitution.
As a result, the court declared the publication null and void and without effect.
The court also issued an injunction prohibiting Umeh from representing himself as the LP’s senatorial candidate.
In addition, the injunction barred the LP from accepting or presenting Umeh as her candidate.
