BREAKING: Former Minister Of Justice Arrested
Anderson Torres, Brazil’s former Minister of Justice and Public Security, has been arrested on suspicion of “omission” and “connivance” in the last week’s invasion of government buildings in Brasilia.
Torres, the former justice minister of former right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro, was arrested after returning to Brazil on Saturday from a vacation in Florida, the same US state Bolsonaro visited after losing the election to current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
When his home was raided this week, the ex-minister claimed on Thursday that police evidence was taken out of context.

Torres was arrested on Tuesday by Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. The charges were not immediately clear, but Moraes cited alleged “omission” and “connivance” by Torres.
Flavio Dino, the new justice minister, stated that the authorities would give Torres until Monday to return to Brazil or face extradition.
Torres announced on Twitter on Tuesday that he would interrupt his vacation and return to Brazil to hand himself in after learning of Moraes’ detention order.
Dino also confirmed the discovery of a draft decree at Torres’ home proposing emergency steps for a possible “correction” of the October election, which Lula won by a razor-thin margin.
Bolsonaro’s name appears at the bottom of the draft decree, which is unsigned and undated. However, Dino stated that the authorship was unknown.

Torres stated on Twitter that the document was “likely” part of a pile of papers destined for destruction, and that the contents of the draft had been taken “out of context” in order to “feed false narratives” against him.
Thousands of “Bolsonaristas” stormed government buildings last week, breaking windows and furniture, destroying priceless works of art, and spray-painting messages calling for a military coup.
The Supreme Court has agreed to investigate Bolsonaro for allegedly inciting the protests.
Prosecutors will look into Bolsonaro for possible “instigation and intellectual authorship of the anti-democratic acts that resulted in vandalism and violence in Brasilia last Sunday,” according to a statement issued by the top public prosecutor’s office on Friday.
Bolsonaro never publicly acknowledged Lula’s victory, and he fled to the United States two days before the inauguration.
